Flow App Reviews

Doesn’t work

It doesn’t work. Didn’t check the date of the last update before purchasing so didn’t realize that this software hasn’t been actively developed in years. Do not bother downloading.

No Flow

Total waste of time and money. Could not send more thant 212 kilobytes.

Good start

Overall this is a good ftp program. It is a little buggy in minor ways but seems very stable. The UI is good but also needs some improvements, I think it should have back buttons for when you are browsing files not just breadcrumbs. This could be a personal preference though. The most exciting thing about this program is its potential. It is fast, simple and stable. I am hoping that they expand on it and add more features. I have had my eye on purchasing Panics Transmit so I do have that program in mind when using Flow. Obviously Transmit has some features that Flow doesnt since its been around longer but in time I think Flow could surpass Transmit. I really do like this program and I happy with my purchase. Keep up the good work.

No resume, no transfer speed?

I got fed up with Cyberduck and decided it was time to try a new FTP client. I saw the Black Friday sale and thought "this should be good", now Im glad I didnt spend the full $30 because that would be a total steal. It lacks 2 basic features (for me): • it doesnt show the current transfer speeds • NO RESUME SUPPORT FOR TRANSFERS (come on devs... were in 2011!) Also, I know "beautiful" and "elegant" are subjective concepts, but boy, in my opinion this app is horrible and totally counter-intuitive. I wish the App Store had a refund policy, because I badly need one now.

It Has Potential...

I bought this after the trial period was over but having used it a little longer it has some problems. As others have mentioned it has some UI bugs but they are not so bad. It crashsed when I tried to upload bunch of file and directories at one time. Ive had to reinstall it once when it just stopped working. The author does not answer support questions. It is very fast uploading and downloading and has a pretty slick interface. I wouldnt recommend buying this version but this could mature into a nice product if they support it.

Nice little ftp app but needs work.

UPDATE: Trying to download and upload directories with flow fails 90% of the time. Not good. This was my first the first ftp software purchase for mac and so far so good. There are small little bugs here and there but for the most part its working great. I have to admit it is very speedy. Please add: 1. The ability to choose a home directory for your bookmarks. Im getting tired of cycling through my wordpress installation to get to my theme. Thanks!

It

Great interface and intuitive functioning. Works really well. Recommended. Im disappointed it isnt working with Fatcow hosting SFTP though. I know you need to accept something about the key certificate (other FTP program allowed this key certificate acceptance) and I cant get anything with Flow to allow me to accept that; it just wont connect. And it wont tell you what is going on. Seems like a an easy thing to add to the program to allow a user to accept a certificate request. Otherwise cool prgram but kind of useless if I cannot get SFTP working on it.

Excellent App - No support.

This is an excellent app. Its simple, straightforward, and elegant. Although there are a few minor bugs. I would give it 5 stars, but, I refuse to after sending a support request well over a month ago, and never receiving any response beyond an automated "Well get back to you within two days" email.

New version fixes problems

The latest update fixed the connectivity problems I was seeing, and I received a note from the developer apologizing for the delay in replying to my support message. I can now recommend Flow as an excellent SFTP/FTP application. My only concern at this point would be that its not quite clear (though I eventually found it) how to use an SSH key instead of a password for SFTP bookmarks. Otherwise, great job.

Good look, ease to out, straight to the point! Best FTP Client

I used a lot of FTP clients, including the most popular and the most alternative ones. But none of them was so simple and beatiful than Flow. I sad that with a little bit of knowledge because besides web developer Im an Graphic Designer and Advertisement man so I CAN say it is really beatiful. As a motion designer as well I can say with transitions animations Flow makes everything so much better and joyful to make and when you are programing for more the 10 hours it counts. The feature that I really love from many that Flow has is the capability to download the file from server, store in your temp folders and when you save it, Flow automatically upload back to the server. I really can spend a lot of hours typing here what it can do and how it make my life better, but now I think that you noticied what Im say. If you were in doubt about buying Flow please take my words and make the right choice I know that Flow will make you very happy as it is making me happy. PS: The support is amazing.

Terrific Value!

Just bought this app today and am loving it. Very simple, straightforward and clean. The remote editing features are great. Granted, this doesnt have as many features as something like Transmit, but its a great app nontheless.

nice program, but not for professional user

update #2: Every update of this app provides better functionality, improved stability and lots of bug fixed, which is nice. It would be a 5 stars app if it supports "resuming" of interrupted transfers. IMHO this app is still not a choice for users with huge files or unstable internet connections. ----- update #1: My first review on this app (below) was negative. But recent update resolved most of the issues. Now I can reliably transfer huge files (6+ GB) without freezing and it is now very stable. BUT: It does not yet support resuming broken downloads, which is a big deal and I think every serious file transfer app should support this feature. I mean, come on, even command line tools like "wget" support this. This is a basic feature that most people need. ----- The program looks very nice and is very easy to use. But after a few tries you will be annoyed by lack of some important features, especially support for resuming broken downloads. Resuming is a very basic feature that Trasmit and Cyberduck support, but it is not the case with Flow. However if you are doing web development and dealing with small files, this program is recommended.

Hundreds of Modal Dialogue Boxes, Had to Force quit

Because I manage hundreds of websites I have hundreds of stored keychain entries, having used an earlier version of Flow I upgraded through the App store. On attempting to use the new instance of the program it sequentially popped up one modal dialog after another, asking for permission to use each one, one at a time - no escape, not even a default selection so that I could use my Enter key. Very, very, very bad programming. RUN AWAY!

its a transfer app

"beautiful"? hmm.. thats a persional opinion i guess. it took me a little while to figure out the interface, i couldnt get it to stop downloading files to my desktop. bookmark managmeent could be better. my biggest complaint, no support for ssh keys, i have to use a password for everything. id prefer not storing my password in every application there is, why there are ssh keys. also no way i can find to set any sort of rate limits, so it will gobble all your available bandwidth. transfers work. worth the $5 if you need a transfer client..

Everything I want & more..

Thanks for this guys plus the update, good price & it dose the job fine just fine.

Elegant, beautiful, almost perfect

Gorgeous app that does almost everything I need. I look forward to Lion features like full-screen. Plus, the developer is a cool guy and responsive! What a sweet, small world we live in.

Frequent crashes

I have encountered frequent crashes, especially when uploading multiple files. Overall, the the app is well designed, but you may run into issues. For example, if you drag a file over a remote directory, Flow immediately attempts to list the contents of that directory which can be useful but also very slow and annoying if that directory happens to have thousands of files in it.

Not useful for me

On one of their screenshots it shows transfer progress, but it doesnt show it for me. I am transferring a 540MB file right now, and all it will tell me is preparing/transferring. That is a deal killer for me. It took me a minute to figure out how to display my local hard drives in the left navigation panel. Their support and FAQs are virtually non-existant. Menus are annoying. It doesnt change show/hide on all view options depending on the current view. When I click "show transfers view" it will hide the transfer view if I am already viewing the transfers view. It should say "hide transfers view" when I am already viewing it. "Show/hide hidden files" automatically changes based on the view. It needs to be consistent. It needs to be complete. I am switching back to one of the many good free clients.

Awesome

This is so much better looking and easier to use than any other FTP Ive ever seen. Its super easey, and much more simple than anything you can get for free. Definitely worth the $5. Built in text editor is a plus.

Simply amazing

I love how seamlessly this app connects me and my linux workstatoin at school, this is so useful, definitely a 5 star!!
